“N by E” was Rockwell Kent’s third autobiographical tome, after “Wilderness: A Journal of Quiet Adventure in Alaska” and “Voyaging: Southward from the Strait of Magellan.” It was the first time that one of his personal writings and a major literary work – Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” – were initially presented in both deluxe and trade editions (1930)… with both being followed by numerable reprintings.
Offered here are three examples of “N by E” that appeared in 1930. “The Guild Selection for December” [The Literary Guild], with dust wrapper; the deluxe edition, with its original, numbered slipcase (#868. A signed edition); and the Brewer & Warren trade edition, also in original dust wrapper. They are priced as follows: $85, $225, and $125.
