Harry Sternberg’s 1933 aquatints/etchings from the “Music Series”: Clarinet and Cello: Inscribed “For Kent from Harry Sternberg” (Rockwell Kent). The prints measure ~10 3/4 by 6 7/8 inches.

These prints are from a series based on the artist’s interpretation of the sound of various musical instruments. Other instruments include Cymbals, Violin, Saxophone, etc.

Kent and Sternberg were friends and fellow American Artists’ Congress members.

Gordon Kent, the artist’s son, illustrated here with Clarinet displayed behind him. This image comes from the CBS Sunday Morning article “Rockwell Kent and Monhegan Island,” with Gordon, Jamie Wyeth and Scott Ferris (aired May, 2003).

Also illustrated is a drawing of the American Artists Congress by Peppino Mangravite (The American Magazine of Art, April, 1936). Kent is depicted second to right of podium.
