An 1887 pencil drawing, by E. A. Speare, of a top-hatted boy running to greet a “USM” wagon. The “USM” initials are seen on the seat on which the driver sits, and on the banner that hangs from the tree (a post box is mounted on the tree just below it). Presumably “USM” stands for U. S. Mail. A woman passenger carries a package on her lap and her trunk is seen on the back of the wagon.

The piece is identified on the verso with the inscription: “E. A. Speare. 1887”: It measures 9 3/4 by 13 1/2 inches, 16 1/4 by 19 inches framed.

Previously $315, Now $220.   (21-11UWZ)
