A (C. David) Bartlett, (M. J.) Garvens & Company surgical instruments box. The label reads: “Bartlett, Garvens & Co. … North 9th St. Richmond, VA, Surg’l. Insts. Etc.” (They were at 18 North 9th 1894-1897, and 30 North 9th 1896-1899.)

The contents include two indirectly related instruments – a scalpel, and a bone cutting forceps stamped “H. Hernstein & Son, 393 Broadway, New York” (Civil War period maker).

Perfect for someone who have instruments by this company but no box.
