Item Details

A document box in the form of a book, made of Coramandel (a type of ebony). European, possibly American made, during the latter half of the 19th century. Approximately 9 1/4 inches wide by 6 1/4 inches deep, by 3 inches at its highest. The cover (top) of the box angles, by about 1″–going from 3″ in the area of the escutcheon to 2″ in the area of the spine. The escutcheon, filigree-like, and surrounded by “buttons,” appears to be made of cut steel. The male element of the locking system is gone. There is a crack in the cover, near the area of the hinges, which is hidden by the grain of the wood.

Previously $295, Now $125.    (13-27UER)
