“Half plate” tintype of a gentleman in a horse drawn carriage. The carriage, sometimes referred to as a “gig carriage,” was a “small, lightweight, two-wheeled, cart that seated one or two people. It was usually pulled by a single horse and was known for speed and convenience. It was a common vehicle on the road.” (See Jenny Ashcraft’s article in Fishwrap). Notice the billboard of a steer on the building in the background.
This tintype measures 4 1/4 by 6 1/2 inches, and is not framed.
