“Study” is an oil and collage on board, circa 1975, by Edward Christiana (1912-1992).
The artist inscribed, on the verso of the board, “Study/Oil and collage/c. 1975/Edward Christiana.” The work measures 20 1/5 by 23 1/2 inches.
Christiana’s work reflects his interest in both the abstract and representationalism via his appreciation for artists such as John Marin and Winslow Homer.
The artist taught painting at Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute School of Art from the 1940s until his retirement in the 1970s-early 1980s.
