Perhaps I should start out by saying adult viewers only! This late 18th-early 19th century blue and white fabric fragment depicts an array of debauchery. A solicitous “gentleman” is seen at left fondling an innocent young woman; at top, a concerned mother rounds the bend to see her daughter being pulled into the clutches of an armed strapping young man (his pup does not necessarily suggest a friendly encounter); in the lower right a woman stands behind her protector, or husband, who uses (presumably) a pitchfork to poke away an unwanted. The goat, seen alongside this latter exchange, implies fertility and evil, amongst other things. The twisted, long tree winds through the composition to divide the various events.

The fabric measures approximately 12 by 16 inches and is in good condition.
