18th century.

Oval, wood box, painted red with gold and black embellishments––crown and crest framed by extended floral design, decorates the top of box while a floral “vine” pattern decorates the perimeter, the side of the box. The text on the remains of the paper label, attached to inside of the box top, appears to compare grain equivalencies.

Iron scale with brass trays––strings are replaced. Eight brass weight “bowls.” Compartment, just to the right of the trays––with sliding wood door––may have held smaller weights (sliding wood door at left is missing).

Approximately 7 1/4 in. long x 2 1/4 in. wide x 1/2″ high.
