An exceptionally fine, delicate reticule (woman’s small handbag), made of silk cloth and embroidered in a floral motif. Considering the material used to create the piece, and its presumed age, –19th century or earlier–it appears to be (virtually) unused.
On one side we see a bouquet of blue and red flowers (hibiscus?), with a pink and yellow flower (of some sort), and broad leaves; and on the other side, red and white pansies. The weighted base (that appears like wings) is adorned with sprigs of rose buds. Silk ribbon serves as the drawstring and a decorative side element.
The reticule measures approximately 10 1/2 by 8 (at its widest) inches.
