“Theo. Tafel/Mfr. of Surgical Instruments/Louisville-Nashville,” reads the stamped label on this pocket surgical set.

The silk thread holders that are within are (predominantly) labeled “prepared for” Theo. Tafel, but there is one other that is marked “Yale Surgeon’s Silk.”

Theodore Tafel was active on his own–apparently independent of his brothers–1890-1900.
