Black Triangle (1990) by John Loy is an oil on canvas which measures 27 3/4 by 23 inches. The painting is signed and annotated on verso: “J. Loy, ’90, Black Triangle.”
Of his artwork he states:
“I am an artist primarily interested in the formal elements of painting—the interaction of lines, shapes, patterns, and colors. My ideas are frequently derived from the technique of collage, which I use as a point of departure. I am fascinated by the manipulation and juxtaposition of fragmented shapes and images. I use these fragments for their visual quality, not their symbolism.
“Technically speaking, I am a perfectionist and a precisionist. Although the finished work may appear predetermined, the work in progress usually goes through many changes. However, I do not want the working process to be evident, only the final result.”
