Item Details

This apothecary holds seven bottles in the top compartment, five of which have labels: Tincture of Rhubarb, Peppermint Water, Cold Drawn Castor Oil, Spirit of Sal Volatine (additional information reads: “Lines Dispensing Chemist, Market Place, Hertford), and Sweet Spirit of Nitre (with: George Lines, Pharmaceutical Chemist, Hertford). Also in the top compartment is a container labeled, “Medicine Glass & Minimum”: in which we have the larger measuring device, the medicine glass, and the smaller, or “Minimum Measure.” In the bottom drawer are a scale, –glass trays held by strings–a cased Sheffield (folding) knife, and a horn spoon.

The wooden box measures approximately 6 1/2 inches high by 5 5/8 inches deep, by 6 3/4 inches wide. Considering the Hertford (England) labels and the style of the box, we can conclude that this apothecary is English made.
