A New Entry: Northlands Winter with Hawk by Edward Christiana

Edward (Chris) Christiana (1912-1992) has been described in other posts on this website.
The 1966 oil on canvas offered here is entitled Northlands Winter with Hawk. It is signed and dated – ’66 – lower right and annotated on the verso backing. A label from the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute, Art Rental Library, also on the verso, covers up Christiana’s title and related information, though it provides us with the framed measurements. The frame was either made by the artist or his father.
Like many of Christiana’s works he marries realistic and abstract mannerisms. Unlike his other paintings he inserts an image of birdlife.
