Surveyor’s compass from Benjamin Pike & Sons, circa 1841-1867.
Engraved on the face of the compass is: “Benj. Pike & Sons. 548 Broadway. N.Y.” “Warranted.”
The diameter of the compass is approximately 5 15/16 inches, and the length, over all, 14 3/4 inches. The measurements on the box are 15 1/2 x 7 5/8 x 3 inches. There are opposing bubble levels to either side of the compass box on the brass plate; and there are detachable sight vanes.
