Northern Night (1930) by Rockwell Kent. A wood engraving on maple with a tint block of linoleum, 5 9/16 by 8 1/8 inches. Variously titled “N by E.” Signed lower right.

The image illustrates an actual event in the artist’s first trip to Greenland (1929) when, following the shipwreck of he and his two sailing companions off the coast of the largest of island, Kent makes the long hike to find help, resting along the way under a rock ledge.
