Stonington Houses (1969) by Edward Christiana (1912-1992) is an oil on canvas measuring 30 by 42 inches. It is signed and dated – “’69” – lower right and additionally annotated on the verso.
Christiana’s biography includes: graduated from Pratt Institute in 1933; was on the teaching staff at Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute from 1943 until he retired in the 1982; traveled throughout the United States and Canada, painting in oils and watercolors.
His artwork is in the collections of the Albany Institute of History and Art, Currier Gallery of Art, Everson Museum (Syracuse, NY), Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute (now known as Munson), and elsewhere.
Christiana was included in exhibitions at the Montclair Art Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, and Kraushaar Galleries, amongst other institutions.
The complementing frame was made by the artist or his father.
