Charles Parmelee (C.P.) Rising (1859-1920)
Born Auburn, NY, died New York, NY.
Untitled Landscape: Near Amsterdam, New York
Oil on canvas. 15 x 22 inches.
Signed lower left and dated: “C.P. Rising ’90.”
Rising studied with the Hudson River school painter George Clough (1824-1901)–also an Auburn, NY based landscape artist. He worked in a variety of media including oil, watercolor and graphite. Though he worked primarily as a landscape painter of the Finger Lakes region of New York State, he traveled and painted throughout the state. The verbal history of this painting suggests that it was created in the Amsterdam, NY area.
