Circa 1850s. Pattern 1833 front plate, for regular army Dragoons.
Leather body is mounted with silvered furnishings, including Medusa head side buttons, visor, base band around body, and laurel wreath. Red horsehair plume mounted in eagle-with-star holder.
Label inside: “Henry T. Grata Cap Co. N.Y. manufacturer of Military and Fireman’s Caps”. One corner of the label is missing but the address “Grand Street New York”, remains. From 1851 forward Grata was located at 143 Grand Street.
